The Body Shop Aloe Moist Lotion (for sensitive skin)

Hi peeps, I’m really busy with work and university applications so I will be doing posts with quick takes on certain products I’ve tried recently- I’m making sure to choose products that can be tried out at their respective stores so you can try them out for yourself too- because urgh I don’t have my DSLR available and my phone camera is. the. pits.

So, today I’ll be giving you my quick take on The Body Shop’s Aloe Moist Lotion (for sensitive skin)!

It looks like this.

The bottle is opaque btw, it’s a very pretty mint green that strangely looks see-through in this picture I grabbed off The Body Shop’s website (teehee)

It is intended to be a moisturiser rather than a toner, and when I apply it on my face it feels really soothing and nice.

It claims to be fragrance-free, alcohol-free, and colour-free, and it certainly lives up to its claims.. Though to be honest sometimes I feel it smells a little like paint!

This didn’t work out as nicely as Nature Republic’s Aloe Vera gel, because I’d apply it before I sleep and feel a little uncomfortable and my skin a tad bit sticky.

It also doesn’t soothe my skin as well as the aloe vera gel did.

As I don’t have sensitive skin, I can’t test if this product really lives up to its claims of soothing sensitive skin, and overall, I’d give it a miss. It’s even more expensive than the aloe vera gel too (=_=)  And it doesn’t help my acne at all.

Likes: Fragrance-free, doesn’t sting skin

Dislikes: Does not perform up to expectations and is more expensive than the aloe vera gel

3 stars (3/5) Not too bad, but not that good either. Just meh.

So, if you are living in Singapore/ Korea, you would have seen this product EVERYWHERE.

Yes, this one.

So, I gave in a few months ago and bought it on Qoo10 during a sale (they usually have it at 1+1, 12.90 SGD but I managed to get it a dollar cheaper (hey, it’s still money).

I was quite skeptical at first because everyone was RAVING about it and going on and on about how awesome it was. When I got it in a pretty sizable box (heavy, too) I was quite impressed by the value for money. Its diameter is almost as long as a smartphone.

I slathered a sizable amount on my face and waited. It absorbed pretty quickly, but I would recommend using an exfoliator first for better absorption.

Author’s note: Premier Dead Sea has made a really fantastic exfoliator, it’s on sale at City Link Mall (Singapore) for 39.90SGD because they released a new packaging and want to clear the old ones- original price 49.90SGD)

Alternatively, you can buy the Mask of Magnaminty from Lush (I think there is one at Suntec City) but be warned, not everyone might take to it (review later). For me, it leaves my skin feeling matt, cool and fresh, and does not cause me to overproduce facial oil afterwards. However, some people have complained about their face feeling too dry or having overactive oil production, so I’d advise you to buy the mini pot (10g) first. Please see the review for more info on it, as I don’t want to go on and on about another product here. But it has worked really well for me, so I’d recommend you check it out.

Anyway, it absorbed like a charm and my face felt deliciously moisturised afterwards. If you feel that your face feels sticky, you have probably applied more than your face can take in.

Either: i) reduce the dosage or
ii) Exfoliate before using this gel or
iii) Splash some water on your face (no need to try to wash it off entirely, usually I just let the tap run and cup some water to my face and gently pat my face dry afterwards.

It works really well for people with sensitive skin, and I was amazed to see it reduced the redness of my acne. I usually squeeze my pimples, particularly those on my nose, and so I’ll usually wake up with the redness still there. But when I apply this gel, I don’t get any redness or swelling, or spreading of acne! I was totally amazed! (don’t follow my example and squeeze your pimples, I don’t get acne scars for some reason but not everyone might be as lucky)

However, this product loses its effectiveness if you use it consecutively for several days for some reason. So I usually alternate this product with the Laniege Water Bank Sleeping Mask_EX I got recently (I have so much reviews to do omg) and the Laniege Water Bank Hydro gel (moisturiser)

There are tons of uses you can get out of this aloe vera gel.

I also use it to tame my unruly hair (I have naturally wavy/ curly hair and when I wake up in the morning they go out of control), use it after tweezing/ shaving to soothe my skin, and before I go out. I don’t use makeup save for lips and mascara, so I can’t tell if it is good under foundation.

Also, I find this mask a little strong on the alcohol smell, I’m not sure why they would put in alcohol as it is drying ._.

When I apply the mask, my face feels moisturised but my hands always feel dry afterwards due to the alcohol content. If you have sensitive skin, you should do a patch test before trying it out, just to make sure 🙂
