Shiseido Pureness Blemish Targeting Gel

Hey guys!

I’ll be reviewing Shiseido’s Pureness Blemish Targeting Gel today!

I’m actually reaaaaally busy but not updating much is giving me guilt trips, so… *cough* I’ve decided to do an easy post as a filler.

My aunt got this for me last Dec and I’ve been putting this off for the longest of times. Well, obviously I  didn’t buy this myself cos no money :X She originally bought it for her daughter-in-law’s sister (we have a crazily huge extended family in Brunei) but gave it to me ‘cos she bought extra and she saw I had this bad case of acne on the left side of my forehead.

She got it cheap in Miri (some place in Malaysia that you can drive to from Brunei) for RM 80. That’s like… 32 bucks? Hmmm I wouldn’t spend so much on a blemish gel 😛

So I have to rely on the good wishes of *cough* my family to sponsor me! (what, you think I earn money meh? *indignant*)

She says it is usually 40-50 SGD in Brunei but when I went to google it it ranges from 28-36 SGD in Singapore/ on Amazon plus super expensive shipping fees. But that’s still quite a bit of money. I’ll tell you, she is super sweet to everyone!

Whenever I visit Brunei she’ll take me shopping and insist on paying for everything. We fight to pay first at the cash register but I usually lose, because she is the lady boss of the main newspaper agency and almost everyone knows her ._. Everyone seems to know everyone else there ‘cos the population is only 300,000…. Which is like 20 times smaller than Singapore! Is my math right??

Okay fine this doesn’t really explain much but usually the cashiers accept the money from the elder.

There was one time she tricked me into trying another piece of clothing and promptly paid for all the items I wanted! Super jian4 !

Recently I’ve taken to shopping alone hahaha but it’s quite hard to do so cos I can’t get to the malls unless someone drives me…

I think she spent at least 400 bucks on me last Dec hols.

50 bucks on Hada Labo stuff

70 bucks at The Face Shop/ Holika Holika

100 bucks or so on clothes (clothes are super cheap there!!)

almost 200 bucks for a pair of Lee jeans my uncle got for her in Taiwan but she couldn’t fit into them, so she gave them to me. I wear them EVERYWHERE now. They are gorgeous… the gradient of shades, the fit, how the material hugs your legs… what can I say?? LOVELOVELOVE.

********

Oh gosh I clean forgot about reviewing the product!

I guess I’ll have to do it tomorrow cos I’m too busy.

.

Joking!

Okay, I use this rather sparingly (15ml only) and usually only for huge patches of acne. It isn’t very effective for huge pimples or stopping developing ones, but it is quite good with huge red patches of tiny little irritable bumps. It cleared up mine in a little under two days!

Do note that it is quite drying, and I’m sure that if you run a Google search you’ll find some comments about it.

This is not a fantastic product that would make me squeal my head off I guess, cos’ it is not exactly in a cute packaging or has drastic miraculous results. If you run a Google search again, you’ll notice that there are mixed reviews.

Well… a plus point is that it is quite convenient to use (a squeeze bottle thing)

.

And you can see that it is a clear gel…

I circled it in case you can’t see it :3

Another thing I like is that it absorbs quickly without leaving an oily film or feeling (it’s drying, I guess) and it has a rather refreshing feeling, though I’m afraid that’s because of the high alcohol content.

People with sensitive skin should not use this product as it stings. At first I was super happy that it stung because it should mean that it is doing its job and whatnot, but then I realised it had a super high alcohol content, like a hand sanitiser, and drying too, and smells the same, so maybe I can get the same effect with the plain ol’ Dettol hand sanitiser??

Loves: Cooling feeling, convenient bottle

Hates: Not a very astounding product as a whole.

Rating: 6.5/10

Conclusion: Find something better (and probably less pricey).

The Face Shop ME:EX Mini Pet Hand Cream in White Floral and Sweet Fruits

I’ll be doing a whole bunch of posts that I’ve been putting off and this is the first one:

The Face Shop ME:EX Mini Pet Hand Cream in White Floral and Sweet Fruits!

Phew, quite a mouthful eh?

Anyway, I’ve been putting this off since… last year?

And I finally decided I’d get down to it after my mum bought a SECOND batch of these hand creams.

She got me the sweet fruits one on top of the white floral one I asked for because she thought it smelled nice in the store.

How it looks like on the inside…

As you can see, I’ve used up half of my old container already! I really love the floral scent!

Actually, I’m not really a big fan of floral scents, but this is so sweet and musky and smells of all things good…

And in contrast, the sweet fruits one disappointed greatly. It smelled like an air freshener- fake and overly sweet and cloying, and I didn’t like it one bit 😦

Rubbing all the goodness in~

The hand cream absorbs quickly and is not too oily, but it is not a very heavy moisturising one. But at least it doesn’t wash off with water!

If you have extremely dry hands, I’d suggest you find one recommended by dermatologists, something from the clinic because over-the-counter products will NEVER penetrate your inner skin layer, no matter what all the adverts say.

Because if they do, it will require a doctor’s slip. If it could slip past your skin layer, it harbours the risk of being used for terrorist attacks and whatnot. Which is one of the reasons why you can’t bring more than 100ml on planes, see?

The things you learn on my blog everyday ._.

I think when I’ve used up the hand cream I’ll wash it and use it as a paperweight on my desk or maybe to store paper clips or whatever.

THE CONTAINER IS TOO FRIGGIN CUTE AND I’M A SUCKER FOR AWESOME PACKAGING.

All the Korean skincare brands have such cute packaging, makes you want to buy them all

Note: all the photos have been watermarked with my blogger account. THEY ARE NOT STOLEN FROM A DIFFERENT SITE.

I think it’s getting harder to find a good fruity scent nowadays- all the nice ones I come across are mostly floral and musk!

The Body Shop Pomegranate Body Polish

I’ll be reviewing The Body Shop’s Pomegranate Body Polish today~

This body soap + scrub gives off a delightful fruity scent! Squeeze a tiny bit on your palms and rub accordingly. I really love its vibrant red colour and its scent.

 Pretty~

As the exfoliating granules are gentler than the other body scrubs (the ones in the tubs), you can use it daily (as stated on the tube); and yet it gets the job done, leaving the skin super smooth! Another plus point is that it comes in a tube, so it’s waaaay more hygienic than dipping your fingers into a tub everytime you want to use it 🙂

This body polish doesn’t dry out your skin- it leaves it feeling moisturised, clean, and super soft and baby-like! I think you can even skip the after-bath moisturiser ‘cos my skin feels really bouncy and soft, like after a good moisturiser. It doesn’t feel oily or anything, don’t you worry.

I really like how the scent lingers for an hour or so after you bathe, and it’s not too cloying or strong 🙂

I think this scrub can also lighten your skin tone (by scrubbing away the dead skin), and it does remove some hairs while you’re at it (this may be just me), so I use it on my legs and underarms to brighten it up. I think it works but I searched the Net and there doesn’t seem to be much said about it ;-;

So maybe they haven’t tried or noticed it yet. There is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate in this, which can’t be very good for the skin, but maybe that’s why there is brightening properties ._.

It is rather tempting to use it everyday but I really want to make this tube last!  Anyway, I think you shouldn’t use scrubs, no matter how gentle, on a daily basis because it stresses your skin out.

Perhaps you could buy the Strawberry Body Polish that’s going on offer now, for Valentine’s Day. Buy 2 products from the Chocolate/ Strawberry Bath range, and get 20% off, or 3 products and get 30% off!!

Strawberry is a delicious scent as well, but I prefer pomegranate because you get strawberry-scented things everywhere.

Extra tip:

I sometimes mix this in with my facial cleanser and viola! A face scrub! Do a spot test if you are known to have sensitive skin 🙂 But it really makes my face feel baby-smooth and soft~~ * sighhhh * What’s not to love about this?

********************************************************************************************

Loves: Fruity scent, non-drying, gives smooth skin, scent lingers for awhile, comes in a tube instead of a tub like many of the Body Shop’s products do

Hates: ….. Not that I know of

Rating: 9/10

Would I buy it again?: DEFINITELY!

Price: 18.90 SGD (regular price, but most times they go for 12.90SGD or even down to 8.90SGD at new store openings) , or you can get the Strawberry one on sale during the Valentine’s Day period i.e. NOW!

Green Bean Powder Mask

Hey guys!

Today, I’ll be telling you one of my beauty secrets :3

Oooh, a secret!

Okay, okay, I’ll tell you now.

Let me tell you what I do whenever I get really bad breakouts. I don’t use skincare products during really bad breakouts except cleanser once in the morning and at night, like mosturisers and whatnot. Instead, I turn to natural methods to get rid of the acne!

To get rid of the dirty bacteria:

I use green bean powder, mixed in water, and apply it like a mask. I bought mine from an organic health food store which has barley and rice bits mixed in for added whitening properties that doubles as a scrub.

It is located near Bukit Batok MRT and goes by the name of ‘Vitality’. My mum bought this for me though, so I’m not sure of the exact location. You should be able to buy it in supermarkets though, as it is used in cooking. You don’t actually need the mixed version. The powder I used last time was purchased from NTUC.

DO NOT BUY ‘GREEN BEAN FLOUR’. It looks very similar. If you don’t see any green bean powder, it goes by an alternative name- mung bean powder, which is the same thing. It should look something like this.

I usually use lukewarm water because I’ve heard the effect is better (opening pores and all) but some people use cold water to reduce the inflammation and redness. If you really want to do that, I suggest you wrap ice in a thin towel and hold it to the inflamed areas (the towel is to prevent you from getting frostbite) after washing off the green bean mask.

This can double as a face scrub due to its texture or you can leave it on as a mask. It will harden and make your face feel tight. You can choose to either peel it off or wash it off.

Anyway, pour a bit of powder onto a small dish and add a bit of water. You should not get a watery mixture. It should look like a thick liquid (I will upload pictures soon)

If you peel it off you get the added bonus of getting rid of dead skin and blackheads on your nose (make sure you apply a suitably thick layer so you can peel it off).

However, if you have dry skin, or a really bad case of acne, it would be better to just wash it off to avoid damaging your skin. I would suggest using warm/lukewarm water to wash off this mask as it clings on well. Too well for my liking when I am in a hurry sometimes ._.

DO NOT USE YOUR NAILS TO TRY AND GET IT OFF!

Pat dry after washing your face and if you like, you can apply your preferred mosturiser or follow up with a honey and sugar mask! (I will write about this next time)

*************************************************************************************************

Loves: Reduces pores, blackheads, inflammation and swelling, removes dry skin and firms your face. Leaves face feeling smooth and soft

Hates: Hard to wash off at times

Rating: 9/10

The Body Shop Ginger Sparkle Body Butter

Today, I’ve decided to deviate from masks and review The Body Shop’s Ginger Sparkle Body Butter!

Although Christmas is over, The Body Shop has yet to clear their Christmas displays, and post-Christmas sales are always worth waiting for! (most shops do it to clear stock)(I will upload pictures when my DSLR is back from repairs. Long story. Meanwhile, satisfy yourself with a picture I took from Google. Many apologies!)

The main components of this body butter are:

Ginger root extract

Shea Butter (Community Fair Trade)

So, if you have been eyeing the Shea Body Butter for some time but want a clean, rich scent, this alternative should do well!

It is suited for all skin types, so this is not as oily or greasy as some of the heavy, ‘for dry skin’ body butters.

The label on the container states 24 hours (is that how long the moisturising effect lasts for? Or that you can use it any time?)

I can understand why they call this ‘Ginger Sparkle’. When you take a whiff of it, you inhale a sharp, spicy scent, and you can’t help but take another sniff. Truthfully, I bought it for the scent rather than its moisturising properties. 😛

Anyway, after I rubbed it into my skin (calves), it really provided a lot of moisture without being too oily or greasy. It sinks in easily and I love the smooth, soft feeling your skin attains. I moved around a lot, so that may be why the ‘moisturised’ feeling lasted for only two hours. The scent easily lasted up to 6 hours in comparison, becoming more subtle as it wore off.

The smell is heavenly but for some people, it might seem a bit strong. A little goes a long way! I usually rub it at the pulse points and a little at the back of my neck when I go out. If you adore this scent and would like to wear it out, I would suggest you apply it 30 minutes before you go out for a more subtle scent! It smells like gingerbread and vanilla and bakeries… YUM!

Sadly, there are no cheaper alternatives online as The Body Shop does not distribute their products to other stores. However, there are 20% off sales ongoing, and I managed to get it cheap in Brunei! There are similar sales in other countries where the Body Shop has set up stores, and I’m sure that even if this is not for you, you can easily find something else you like among the three new Xmas flavours:

Vanilla, Ginger Sparkle and Cranberry! Cranberry has a more mature smell, and Vanilla smells like butter and bakeries. Good enough to eat! I didn’t buy it because I didn’t want to smell like a cake ._.

My boyfriend likes this scent, too, and as it is not exactly a girly scent, why not let your man borrow it? Of course, everyone has their own tastes, and this may not be for everyone. Do head to your nearest Body Shop store to try it out!

****************************************************************************************************************************

Loves: Scent, mosturising but not oily/greasy, sinks in well

Hates: The smell might be too strong for your tastes, so use sparingly or apply and wait a bit before going out

Rating: 7.5/10

Would I buy it again?: This will last for a long, long time. I can’t wait for next year’s Christmas scents! No point buying the same thing twice anyway if it lasts for a long time

Price: Around 21.50 BDN in Brunei (currency equal to Singapore) after 20% discount. And I didn’t use the membership card so members, an additional 10% off! It is more expensive in Singapore, 32.90 SGD if I am not wrong which comes to around 26.30 SGD after discount (membership discount not included in calculations). This makes this cheaper than all the other body butters!! Yay!

Skinfood Rice Mask Wash Off

Another update today! 🙂 Aren’t you lucky~I’ll be reviewing Skinfood’s Rice Mask Wash Off!

I put my Lipice balm there for height comparison! Cos when I got it I was like ‘OMG WHY SO SMALL’. Plus they cheat and the base is elevated =..= lll But after using it I realised it really lasts a long time so no complaints now 🙂

cheat lol ._.

For some reason, it feels kinda oily so I was afraid it would cause my face to break out 😮 I guess its really moisturising! It claims to be make your skin brighter so I guess what it does is whiten and slough off the dead skin 🙂 the after-effect is similar to the Holika Holika Kiwi Peel-off Cream (click to go) and my skin feels smooth and soft!

I‘m not sure if it really brightens as it claims, but I have been getting fairer! To be fair, I am using Hada Labo’s Arbutin Whitening Lotion, so I cannot be sure if it really works. But my skin feels great and moisturised after applying this mask, a bit like Hada Labo’s Super Hyaluronic Acid Lotion, so that tells you how great this is 🙂

After you wash it off, any oily feeling is gone *phew* and you are left with soft baby skin~I rub this in upon application then let it sit for 15-20min as recommended. You can let it sit longer or shorter if you want, I tried it for about 3min another day with about the same results, then for 40min for another. Leaving it on longer just makes the ‘soft, bouncy’ feeling last longer, that’s all.

Remember not to over-use this even though the rice husks are quite gentle! At most three times a week! I really like the fragrance of this mask- it has the underlying scent of cooked rice but has this perfume-y smell that is really quite pleasant, too. It reminds me of The Face Shop’s Rice Cleanser.

*****************************************************************************************************************

Loves: Pleasant smell, cheap, moisturising

Hates: Feels kinda oily at first but no major issues

Rating: 7.5/10

Would I buy it again?: I think it will last a long time… and I have my sights set on the Black Sugar Heating Mask and the Yoghurt Masks (Banana, Kiwi, Papaya… Papaya is good!)

Price: I got it for 7.80SGD online, and they sell it at around 26 SGD in stores. So buy it online!! Go to Qoo10 (click) and hope that it’s discount day 🙂 free samples too hehe
